Drop Everything and Revise

At Dixons Trinity Chapeltown Academy, our mission is simple: we want every student to have the opportunity to go to university or a real alternative, secure a top job, and lead a happy, successful life. A key part of this journey is developing strong revision habits.

Revision is vital because it helps our students:

  • Reinforce and deepen their understanding of key knowledge.

  • Spot and address any gaps or misconceptions.

  • Build confidence, reduce anxiety before assessments, and strengthen problem-solving skills.

  • Move from passive learning to active engagement, leading to stronger academic performance.

Starting this academic year, week 5 of every learning cycle will be known as Drop Everything and Revise.
During this week we will be dedicated to equipping students with the skills they need to revise effectively. Students will explicitly learn:

  • The purpose of revision

  • Practical revision strategies (what they are, how to use them, and when to apply them)

  • Techniques for self-regulation and independent study

This important content will be revisited in morning meetings, advisory sessions, and subject lessons. By doing so, we ensure that all students are fully prepared for their end-of-cycle assessments.

How you can support at home
Your encouragement at home makes a huge difference. Some simple but powerful ways to support your child include:

  • Create a quiet, distraction-free space for them to revise regularly.

  • Encourage short, focused sessions (30–40 minutes) with breaks in between, rather than long periods of passive reading.

  • Ask them to explain what they have revised – teaching someone else is one of the best ways to secure knowledge.

  • Help them plan a revision timetable and stick to it, balancing schoolwork with rest and family time.

  • Praise their effort, not just results – building good habits is just as important as grades.

We kindly ask for your continued support in encouraging these routines at home. Working together, we can give our students the best possible chance of achieving excellent outcomes and thriving both now and in the future.
