Clarion high fliers experience life in the legal profession

Posted 1st June 2026

Before the break, a group of our Year 10 high fliers students took part in an exciting two-day expedition with Clarion Solicitors, providing them with a valuable insight into the world of law and the professional workplace.

The expedition was designed to broaden students' horizons, raise aspirations and help them explore future pathways linked to their interests and talents. Throughout the two days, students demonstrated the Dixons values of integrity, diligence and positivity whilst embracing opportunities to develop their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.

The experience began with a warm welcome from the Clarion team, who treated students to a well-earned breakfast before introducing them to the challenges ahead. Students then took part in a team-building activity centred around a fictional plane crash survival scenario. Working collaboratively, they were tasked with prioritising limited resources and developing a strategy to maximise their chances of survival. This activity required students to think critically, listen carefully to the views of others and justify their decisions with confidence. After extensive discussion and planning, each team presented its survival strategy to a panel of Clarion judges. The quality of the presentations was exceptional, showcasing students' ability to work together, communicate effectively and think under pressure.

The second day saw students immerse themselves in a realistic mock trial. Equipped with case files, witness statements and evidence, students were divided into claimant and defendant teams and challenged to build compelling legal arguments. Working with professionalism and determination, they analysed the information available, prepared their cases and refined their advocacy skills before presenting their arguments to a judge. Following careful consideration of the evidence presented, the judge ruled in favour of the claimants. However, the true success of the activity lay in the commitment, resilience and teamwork displayed by all participants throughout the process.

At the conclusion of the expedition, every student received a certificate in recognition of their efforts. Clarion staff were particularly impressed by the students' conduct, enthusiasm and professionalism, and selected several standout participants who will now be considered for future work experience opportunities with the firm.

Experiences such as this are an important part of our mission to ensure all students are empowered to climb their mountain to university or a real alternative. By providing meaningful encounters with employers and professionals, we help students develop the knowledge, character and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their futures.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took part. They represented the school brilliantly and embodied the values and drivers that underpin everything we do.
