Drama students explore creative careers at Northern Ballet
Posted 8th June 2026
Recently, a group of our drama students embarked on an inspiring expedition to Northern Ballet and Leeds City College, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore the wide range of careers available within the creative industries.
The visit formed part of our commitment to broadening students' experiences and helping them envision the many different pathways their mountain climb may take. Through exposure to higher education, industry professionals and real-world workplaces, students were encouraged to develop ambition, curiosity and a deeper understanding of future opportunities.
The day began at Northern Ballet, where students were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the organisation and gained valuable insight into the many specialist roles that contribute to the success of a professional performance company.
Whilst many students were familiar with performers on stage, the visit highlighted the extensive network of talented professionals working behind the scenes. Students learned about costume design and production, wig making, quick-change logistics, technical theatre, sound engineering and digital communications. They also heard from members of the marketing and social media team, who shared how platforms such as TikTok are used to engage audiences and promote performances to new generations. The visit demonstrated that the arts sector offers a diverse range of careers requiring creativity, collaboration and specialist expertise. Students were able to see first-hand how different skills and passions can contribute to successful careers within the industry.
The expedition continued with a visit to Quarry Hill Campus at Leeds City College, where students were welcomed by senior staff and given a comprehensive tour of the creative arts facilities. They explored professional-standard music studios, observed drama students rehearsing and even watched a live podcast recording from the gallery. Students also learned about the wide range of courses available within the creative department and discovered how further education can support progression into careers across the arts, media and performance sectors.
At Dixons Trinity Chapeltown, we recognise the important role that the arts play in developing confidence, communication, resilience and problem-solving skills. Creative subjects encourage students to think independently, work collaboratively and express themselves with authenticity and purpose.
Throughout the day, our students demonstrated exemplary conduct. They engaged thoughtfully with staff, asked insightful questions and embraced every opportunity to learn. Most importantly, they left with a greater understanding of the many exciting possibilities available to them as they continue climbing their mountain. We are incredibly proud of the maturity, curiosity and enthusiasm shown by all students involved.
