Year 10 artists inspired by Leeds Arts University degree show
Posted 15th June 2026
Our Year 10 GCSE art students recently enjoyed an enriching expedition to Leeds Arts University, where they had the opportunity to explore the university's annual degree show and gain a valuable insight into the possibilities that further study in the arts can offer.
The degree show is a celebration of creativity, innovation and mastery, showcasing final projects produced by graduating students across a wide range of disciplines. For our students, it provided an inspiring glimpse into what can be achieved through dedication, hard work and a commitment to developing artistic practice over time. During the visit, students explored a variety of exhibitions, including the fine art exhibition. For some members of our art department, the experience was particularly special, having studied fine art at the very same institution themselves. This provided a powerful reminder to students that the pathways they are beginning to explore today can lead to exciting opportunities in the future. Students were encouraged to approach the exhibition with curiosity and an open mind. University-level artwork can often challenge expectations and encourage viewers to think differently, and our students embraced this opportunity thoughtfully and maturely.
As they moved through the galleries and studio spaces, students were asked to identify artists whose work resonated with them, gathering inspiration that could inform their own GCSE coursework. Many sketched ideas, recorded observations and reflected on techniques they may wish to develop within their own artistic practice. Experiences such as this are invaluable in helping students understand the breadth of opportunities available within the creative industries. From teaching and community arts to animation, illustration, graphic design, gallery management and technical support roles, the arts sector offers a vast range of rewarding careers.
At Dixons Trinity Chapeltown, we are committed to nurturing autonomy, curiosity and mastery. By exposing students to authentic experiences beyond the classroom, we empower them to make informed decisions about their futures and to pursue their ambitions with confidence. The visit also reinforced an important message: there is no single route to success. Every student's mountain climb is unique, and opportunities such as this help them see the many different pathways available to them.
We were delighted by the maturity, engagement and professionalism demonstrated throughout the day. The students represented the school exceptionally well and fully embraced the opportunity to learn from the creative professionals and graduates whose work they encountered.
We look forward to seeing how this experience influences their artistic development as they continue their GCSE journey.
