Our academy day

The extended academy day gives students more classroom time to apply their skills and understanding deepening their learning. It also provides opportunities to take part in a wide range of co-curricular electives which enrich and broaden students' cultural literacy.

Primary phase

Timings of the school day:

Monday 8.40am – 3.20pm
Tuesday 8.40am – 3.20pm
Wednesday 8.40am – 3.20pm
Thursday 8.40am – 3.20pm
Friday 8.40am – 3.20pm

We offer a free breakfast club from 8.00am. Students attending must arrive between 8.00am and 8.15am. If you would like to access this provision, places must be booked in advance. If the breakfast club is full, you will be added to the waiting list and contacted when a place becomes available.

We also offer a wide range of staff run extra curricular clubs, which are rotated on a termly basis to ensure lots of students have the opportunity to participate.

Secondary academy day (Y7 - 10)

Our academy day begins with a Morning Meeting, which includes: retrieval practice; literacy and numeracy; strengthening school culture; value and expectation reset; current affairs; and appreciations / recognition.

During the day, students have an Advisory session with their advisor and their advisory group. This includes: DEAR (drop everything and read); reflecting on their behaviour, attendance and achievement; PDS seminars (personal development studies); and revision sessions.

The day ends with a whole year group Afternoon Meeting, where students reflect together on two critical questions: How have I been better today than I was yesterday? What is my sentence and how has today helped me toward the top of my mountain?

For Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 same day corrections (detentions of up to one hour) start at 3.30 pm. There is also a homework club that runs each day and extra-curricular activities.

Year 11 academy day

On a Monday and a Tuesday, Year 11 have a longer school day. During this time, students have important intervention to support them in closing gaps from their mocks, assessments and class work. All of Year 11 are expected to stay for lesson 7. On a Wednesday - Friday they follow the normal academy day as above and can attend extra-curricular clubs and homework club along with other year groups.
